NBC’s ‘The Voice’ spoilers: What Joshua Davis, Corey Kent White, India Carney will sing

The latest -

There are never any themes introduced that are specifically for the contestants on “The Voice.” Instead, it is more about them collaborating with the coaches to come up with what they think will get them the most votes / iTunes sales possible.

So when you consider the criteria, it is almost bizarre how predictable some of the song choices are for this week. The artists with country ties (Corey Kent White and Meghan Linsey) have done a good job, and Joshua Davis has a chance for something special. Outside of that, none of the songs below really have us all that excited.

Deanna Johnson, “Somebody to Love” – If this is the Queen version, it a bold departure from what Deanna has done on the show so far. That could be much-needed to get her a larger audience.

Sawyer, Fredericks, “Iris” -We know that Sawyer is brilliant, but it feels like Pharrell is wasting an opportunity by continuously giving him songs that have been covered countless times on singing shows already.

Koryn Hawthorne, “Make It Rain” – When we first heard Matt McAndrew do this song last season, we loved it. Now, we’ve heard it on “American Idol,” and this show again. That’s a lot of burn for a song that really wasn’t known by many before Ed Sheeran covered it on “Sons of Anarchy.”

Hannah Kirby, “Shout” – Seriously? What a bizarre song choice for Blake. Maybe he and Hannah have some secret plan that will make this performance worth it.

Corey Kent White, “Unwound” – It’s an old-school George Strait song for Corey this week. We are already expecting a downpour of votes as a result.

Meghan Linsey, “Home” – It’s a song that has a nice drive to it, which is a good move for Meghan. She’s a seasoned enough performer to pull off something uptempo.

Joshua Davis, “Hold Back the River” – The best choice of the night. The little-known James Bay track suits Joshua’s voice well, and it seems like he and Adam Levine really put some thought into this.

Kimberly Nichole, “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” – Kimberly will probably rock this, but we wish she had something a little more current.

India Carney, “Run to You” – At least it is a less-predictable Whitney Houston cover, right?

Rob Taylor, “A Song For You” – No thank you. Rob needs something that will actually show off a little bit of restraint, and not something that has him hitting crazy notes all across the map.
