‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 5 preview (PBS): Helen George, Charlotte Ritchie, and what’s next

Patsy -While we are going to present a much more in-depth preview for next week’s new “Call the Midwife” over the course of the weekend, there are at least a couple of things that you should know right now.

First and foremost, remember that struggle that Trixie had during tonight’s episode when it comes to the bottle? That’s not a temporary story that is going to be going away anytime soon. Instead, Helen George’s character will be once again struggling with it for at least one more episode, and she may find herself in a rather complicated position. Just think about this for a minute: She is a woman who is currently in the middle of quite the crisis over leaving her fiance, and yet, she is surrounded constantly by the thing that really caused her to be so intimidated: Faith. She interpreted his importance to the church as making her inferior.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Ritchie will also have a huge story next week as newcomer Barbara, as you start to see more of what makes her exemplary at her job. She will meet up with a soon-to-be mother who faces some major complications, and she will be there to try to ease the pain and make these problems easier.

We are now past the halfway point of the season, and the rest of the way you should expect a number of subtle stories to build up over time. We don’t anticipate there being any rush to tell them right away; some, you may be waiting until the finale to get resolution on.
