‘Eye Candy’ canceled by MTV; no season 2 coming for Victoria Justice, cast

The latest -This is not typically the time in which we hear about shows being either renewed or canceled, but the new reality in this social-media era is that such news can be shared at almost any moment. In this case, it comes courtesy of Victoria Justice, who has informed fans and media alike that “Eye Candy” has been officially canceled by MTV after only one season. She confirmed it in a lengthy post on TwitLonger. A small sample is below:

“Hi everyone! I wanted you guys to hear it from me first, that the cast and I received news that Eye Candy will not be returning for season 2.  Even though a lot of you are going to feel sad/angry, please know that playing Lindy Sampson, is something that I loved and I will hold dear to my heart. I couldn’t have asked for better cast mates to work with either.  They are the most down to earth, talented and kind souls that I am so happy to have met. Then there’s our show runner @Christiantwit1 who is so awesomely talented and made a show that I am so incredibly proud to be a part of.  A very special thank you to Jason Blum and the Blumhouse team, you guys are amazing! Jessica, thanks for all your hard work and dedication to Eye Candy.”

While we are sad for the fans, we cannot necessarily say that this news comes as a shock. The show was a ratings disappointment when it aired early this year, even for a network that is still trying to find a voice in scripted programming beyond “Teen Wolf,” “Finding Carter,” and their comedies. We do believe in giving shows a chance to find their audience, but clearly someone at MTV felt that the cost versus the overall profit was not worth bringing the series back for another go.

Ultimately, we don’t imagine that Justice will be without a TV or movie job for long. She still has a proven hit in “Victorious” under her belt, and she has proven to be a multi-faceted entertainer. As soon as we hear what she is working on next, we’ll let you know.
