‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Is someone relieved series is ending?
Even though we imagine that everyone is going to be a little bit upset over “Downton Abbey” coming to a close after six seasons, there is still something to be rather happy about still: The fact that we got a full six seasons to enjoy. This is so much more than what many other shows happen to get, and this is definitely not something to lose sight of as we near the finish line.
While we don’t want to say that any of the cast is necessarily happy to see the show go (that is the wrong word for it), it does seem like they are all cognizant of the fact that there is only so long that a series like this can really last. Take, for example, what Penelope Wilton (Isobel) had to say in a recent chat with the Radio Times about the series nearing the finish line: “I’m not upset about it … When something has run its course, it’s good to end on a high note.”
This sixth season of the show should give Isobel and all other characters a chance to settle into an ending. We don’t necessarily think that everyone will be happy, but this is also not a show that deals with as much despair as some other British dramas a la “Call the Midwife.” We feel like the show will at least be hopeful in its final minutes.
Yes, we do know that this is also a show that killed off Matthew and Sybil, but that’s a bit of a different situation when the actors are declaring their intentions to live.
