‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 18 preview: Candice Accola’s Caroline plays a ‘game’

The latest -Thanks in part to all of the relentless discussion of Nina Dobrev and her imminent exit from “The Vampire Diaries,” there have admittedly been a few times when it is difficult to actually remember to talk about the show itself.

Specifically here, we are referring to what is one of the biggest story threads actually going at the moment in Caroline’s transition into a humanity-deprived vampire, intent on playing games and making those close to her completely miserable. Specifically in this sneak peek, she decides that she wants to play a game with her two exes Tyler and Matt to see which one of them gets to survive, based on just how much they know about her. From an entertainment standpoint, we love Evil Caroline. She actually feels a little like the vampire version of Harley Quinn.

What we do not love nearly as much, however, is the whole notion of “turning off” the humanity in the first place. It seems like such an easy thing to do and such a convenient device to transform a likable character into someone completely evil. Even though it produces results, we would much prefer there to be some sort of genuine character progression to get someone like Caroline to this point. Alas, that has not happened, and we now have her exactly in the position that she is in.

Hopefully, we will get a chance to see something further from her in the episode … and we also hope that these two guys make it out of this okay. We already know Michael Trevino is taking more of a backseat next season, so don’t kill Tyler off in the process!
