Is ‘The Good Wife’ renewed for season 7? New casting suggests so
While CBS may not have granted an official renewal yet for “The Good Wife,” it certainly looks as though this is very much going to be happening based on some of the latest news we are hearing today.
According to a report coming in from Deadline, Broadway actress Cush Jumbo is going to be coming aboard starting with the season 7 premiere in a major recurring role. Perhaps she is meant to be the show’s way of filling the void following the exit of Archie Panjabi? We don’t want to use the word “replacement” because that seems a little unfair, but the show will need to divvy up the screen time in some sort of new or interesting way.
While the ratings for “The Good Wife” are not anywhere close to amazing, you really cannot be too shocked with the notion that it is coming back. It has a very upscale viewing audience, which means people will actually spend money on advertisements. Also, CBS likes having at least one show with a chance at winning Emmy Awards. This is the only real hope they have for a scripted drama; most of the remainder of their hour-long series are cop procedurals.
There are still several episodes of “The Good Wife” season 6 to go, and one of the major priorities here is going to be figuring out how in the world the show will write Panjabi out. Killing off Kalinda seems almost too cruel given the end of Will Gardner, but they will have to provide a proper explanation as to why she is not around.
We will have some other news related to “The Good Wife” no matter what, so be sure to stay tuned for more! Also, head over here to get another preview for what lies ahead, and you can also sign up now to get some further TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: CBS.)
