Ratings: ‘Gotham’ episode 19 hits series low; ‘The Following’ season 3 rises
Time and time again, there are always concerns when a show goes on a lengthy hiatus during a season. Why? The fear is that you are not going to get anywhere near the same number of viewers coming back. This is precisely what happened with “Gotham” on Monday night.
Despite getting off to a great start earlier this season, the Ben McKenzie Fox drama last night posted just a series-low 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a shell of what it used to be. It has already been renewed for a second season, and there is no real reason therefore to really worry about whether or not it will be coming back. What this does do, however, is put so much more pressure on the show to figure out whether or not it needs even more characters from the Batman world to try to bring in more viewers.
The reason we feel like the numbers have ironically slipped this much is because this show has a definitive feel of “trying too hard.” Namely, we mean this in reference to characters like Nygma, who have been written to state some extremely obvious lines like it was not altogether apparent already who they were going to become. Meanwhile, we feel like Fish Mooney was not so much a capable villain. Instead, she was more of just an irritant and someone who felt a little too cartoonish for this world.
Elsewhere, Fox’s other drama in “The Following” dead benefit from its lead-in slightly in posting a 1.1 rating. Granted, we still do not feel like this is going to be enough to get this show in particular about season.
