‘Mad Men’ season 7, episode 10 preview: The story for Jon Hamm, John Slattery in ‘The Forecast’

“Mad Men” is a story on subtlety, and it is also a story on ambiguity. Despite the events of tonight’s installment, you still cannot gleam much from the short synopsis for next week’s “The Forecast” other than some professional struggles: “Roger pawns off a project onto Don; Joan goes on a business trip; Peggy and Pete clash over how to deal with an account emergency.”

We will go out on a limb here (though it is not really necessary) to say that we are excited to see any opportunity involving Pete and Peggy working together … even if they are arguing. In an age of nostalgia on a show about nostalgia, the interactions between these two bring back first-season memories.

As for the Joan story, we have already seen her on a journey to prove herself yet again, and to see more what the limits of her ambition truly are. Somehow, she remains to us the series’ most-ambitious character in a way. While we see Roger and Don strive for more at times, they are limited by their ego and their vices. Joan is the most cutthroat when it comes to her ambition out of the women on the show, and despite her achievements, she is not always recognized for it.

As for Don and Roger, it’s similar to Peggy and Pete: Any time we can have both Jon Hamm and John Slattery on the screen together at the same time, we are probably going to smile.
