‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4, episode 17 preview: The story of Sean Maguire’s Robin

Sunday night’s “Once Upon a Time” episode is entitled “Heart of Gold,” and it looks to be a story almost years in the making. For those of you who have been desperately hoping for a Robin Hood episode, this is it! Not only are you going to have a chance to see Sean Maguire’s character in the Enchanted Forest years ago, but you are also going to have your first tangible update on what he has been up to ever since choosing to leave for New York City with Marian at the end of the fall portion of this season.

We begin with the past, which is the first sneak peek below. Rumpelstiltskin advises him that he has a mission for him that will require venturing to a faraway land in Oz, and snatching a certain something that he desperately needs. This is significant to what brings back the Wicked Witch (Rebecca Mader) to the show in the past … but it is not entirely clear how this brings her back in the present. The promos have suggested that this is going to be happening, but it has not been altogether clear as to how.

As for the second peek, think of this as more proof that Robin really has no self-awareness at all about being in New York just yet, given that he is freaking out over what to do when someone steals Marian’s bag. This scene is fun in that it feels almost like one of those great fish-out-of-water movies, and it also shows you more of what his philosophy on thievery is.

Also, you cannot discount the lovely reminder of Baelfire’s apartment. Giving Robin and Marian his place is tying together a loose end that has been dangling for some time. Who knew that someone in Storybrooke had this sort of rent money, or money to buy the place outright?
