‘Arrow’ season 3, episode 18 podcast: Going beyond ‘Public Enemy’ with Jessa
We are a little later than usual with our latest “Arrow” podcast, so with that in mind, we wanted to bring something a little bit different to you here for our discussion of “Public Enemy”: While we (being Matt Carter and Jessa) are going to get into some of the general themes of the episode, we are also going to be spending a ton of time talking about the future of the season both for the rest of season 3, and also season 4.
We should say one thing in general here: The CW has really spoiled a ton of developments the rest of the way. We’re not discussing anything within this episode that has not already been hinted at by the network, but we would still advise you to sit this one out in the event that you have not seen any of the trailers or read any interviews / synopses online.
One of the biggest questions we have right now is where Oliver goes from here. At this point, it is obvious that our hero is probably going to be forced into becoming the new Ra’s al Ghul, but is that going to be a permanent position? Is it possible at all that he manages to take some members of Team Arrow away from Starling City? Could this be how Roy Harper manages to escape his current fate? We also discuss the latest on Oliver and Felicity and our fear that them hooking up could take away some of the fun, awkward moments that would come from them starting to date and know each other on a romantic level.
As for the news, we get into the latest spin-off casting news, some crossovers with “The Flash,” and our anger at DC Comics over the way that they are taking characters away from this universe.

Great podcast as always, guys! I totally agree with you about how they screwed up the pacing of Oliver and Felicity’s relationship. We completely missed out on the slow burn, and though I ultimately want them to be together, I don’t see how that’s going to happen in a way that makes sense (especially for Felicity’s character) by next week’s big scene. And even if they’re on track by next season, it’ll feel like they skipped over some important steps. Their fun, flirty banter was a big reason I liked the show, and this season’s angstfest makes it seem like all the air has been sucked out of the room. Them jumping into an established relationship feels like we’re being cheated.
I need to start reading the 2.5 comics. I’ve heard it’s where you get the Olicity slow burn, plus The Huntress, and now you’re saying they killed off Bronze Tiger in it? Ugh!

Thanks Suzyque! I think I need to start reading the comics too if they are going to make big moves in it like killing of bronze tiger (as you can tell i love love love Michael Jai White). Also if there’s that nice slow burn for Olicity, I’d really like to see that. That’s what i’ve been hoping for with those two, like you said, that fun witty banter and flirting that builds up to the big moments we want to see between them. I feel a little robbed not getting to be a part of that, especially for Felicity. I really love her, she’s so endearing.

I just read the last issue and it was very cute (Oliver finally bought Felicity that bottle of wine he promised her for helping out with his “scavenger hunt” in season 1). But it didn’t convince me to go back and order all the back issues. It’s just not the same reading it in comic book form. I wanted those scenes in the show! Feels like a big miss on their part.
