‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11, episode 19 review: Where is Patrick Dempsey’s Derek?

Relationships were definitely a theme of tonight’s “Grey’s Anatomy” episode entitled “Crazy Love,” but we should be honest here in saying that most of these relationships were either bizarre or broken. Owen and Amelia are at the top of the list, most because they have had their fair share of both. While he wanted a more committed relationship with her, she seemed hesitant. She even blamed their relationship for not being able to give the treatment that a patient’s mother expected of her and feels like they need to end things.

These two are honestly probably just going to be on the relationship merry-go-round for some time, which is in the end probably fine. They both are completely damaged from their past that they are almost afraid of their future, even if there is a very good chance that they could have a good one. This story is being handled fairly well, for now; if they continue to be this unsure at the end of the season, we’ll be ready to move on with something a little different.

As for some other scenes tonight, how about a minute or two with that cliffhanger? What happened to Derek? It was starting to look like he was very happy with his wife and ready to be there all the time, only to get a call from the White House about his whereabouts. He apparently never showed up, and that is a serious reason to worry.

As for Catherine Avery and Richard, this was mostly just fun, and also proof that no matter how old you may be, you may still at times try to keep secrets from even yourself. It was a more subdued story in an episode that featured a guy’s you-know-what getting cut off. Grade: B.
