‘The X Factor’ UK: Olly Murs confirms talks with Simon Cowell about hosting gig

While it is music to our ears to learn that Olly Murs is a step closer to becoming the new host / co-host of “The X Factor,” it appears that there are still some steps he needs to take in order to get the gig. Specifically, we are talking here about the fact that he needs to actually be hired.

For the first time since the rumors started to pop up that he and his fellow former “Xtra Factor” host Caroline Flack could take the reigns of the talent competition, Olly has spoken out. In a new interview with Spin 1038, Olly confirmed that there have been some minor talks … but for the time being, that is just about all that there is.

“I haven’t got it yet. We’ve spoken about it in the papers but nothing’s been finalised or nothing’s been signed … Me and Caroline have obviously spoken about the idea of it, but like I say, it’s just an idea at the moment, nothing’s been finalized.”

Do we think that this gig will happen? It seems like this is pretty likely, pending some major change at the negotiation table now. Dermot O’Leary was a great host, so you are not going to replace him unless you do so with someone else you have a ton of confidence in. Hiring some no-name person or even an experienced television presenter is probably not going to bring in extra eyeballs. Getting someone with a large fan base, however, could be what changes things for a show that wants more of a pop-culture impact again.
