‘Last Man on Earth’ season 2 official; Fox renews Will Forte series for more
For all of those who were curious about if this was going to be the first and last season for “Last Man on Earth” on Fox, we come bearing some good news: You are going to be seeing a whole lot more of Will Forte when the series returns for a second season! Earlier this week the high-concept comedy got the renewal we and many others expected, especially given the fact that Fox is really need of more series like this that both push the envelope, and also deliver a little bit of commercial success. The ratings have not been necessarily a slam dunk, but consider that it has sometimes aired surrounded by repeats, and doesn’t have the benefit of an NFL overrun like many shows do on Sunday nights in the fall.
In a statement confirming the news, Box Broadcasting Company entertainment head David Madden said the following:
“We knew we had something special with The Last Man on Earth … It’s one of those rare shows that continues to add depth and dimension to its unique premise, week after week. We are so thrilled that this incredibly bold, original and inventive series has been embraced by both fans and critics, and we cannot wait to see where the creative genius and inspired vision of [the creative team] take us in season two.”
This new season does not have a return date just yet, but we would not be too shocked to see it join the Sunday night lineup in the fall. After all, it has to do worlds better than “Mulaney,” which turned out to be a colossal flop.
