‘Chicago PD’ season 2, episode 19 review: The Olinsky episode

Olinsky -For all of you who enjoy seeing some of the supporting players step into the limelight a little, we imagine that Wednesday night’s new “Chicago PD” episode is going to be right up your alley. There was plenty of action within the hour, but above all else a great performance from Elias Koteas as Olinsky. He is a man who does not always get this sort of role, but he relished it tonight as Olinsky did everything in his power to secure a win … and secure he did.

By the time we made it to the end of the episode, Olinsky did manage to take one criminal off of the most-wanted list, but not without pain and struggle in the process. In juxtaposing his professional life and personal life as presented tonight, you got a real sense of just what is weighing on him, and at the same time how much he cares about his family and wants to do everything that he can to make sure that his daughter is safe.

Consider tonight’s story with his daughter the crime TV equivalent of a sitcom dad stalking his daughter’s new boyfriend to make sure he wasn’t a creeper.

The rest of the episode had some good material as well, most notably Voight using his authority to ensure that Roman did not face too many consequences after a pretty brutal brawl. It may not have been the most jam-packed episode of the season, but we don’t mind that given that sometimes, this show needs some breathing room.

This was one of the better episodes we’ve seen this season. Did it state a case for Koteas to get more screen time? We definitely hope so. Grade: B+.
