‘Homeland’ season 5 spoilers: Show boss on new dynamic with Carrie, Saul
When “Homeland” does return to Showtime for a fifth season, we anticipate the expectations being high. Sure, we were one of the people actually enjoyed the season 4 finale, but we realize that the majority of people did not. Therefore, this could be an opportunity for the producers to get a little bit of redemption, and also for them to remind us of what the first eleven episodes of the season were so strong.
What we do know is that there is going to be a role-reversal in many ways when it comes to the Carrie – Saul relationship. At the start of season 4 Saul was working in the private sector, where Claire Danes’ character was leading a team over in the Middle East. Now, Carrie is going to be away from the CIA, while Saul finds himself back under the employ, largely because he is not the sort of guy with the capacity for staying away. As executive producer Alex Gansa tells TVLine, this is going to create a “difference between them” that may not have been there at points during season 4. We feel like another part of this is the sense of betrayal that Carrie felt from Saul during the season finale, which may be one of the reasons why she departed.
As a bonus, also take a look at what Gansa had to say on the subject of Carrie and Quinn’s future, and how the writers are still struggling with whether or not they have potential as a couple or if they are just drawn to each other by timing and circumstance:
“How much is just that they recognize each other so well? How much is the desire for both of them to move on past this job that they do. Those are the questions that we’re wrestling with. We wrestled with them last season. We’re wrestling with them again.”
