‘Justified’ season 6, episode 12 reaction: Boss on setting stage for Raylan – Boyd showdown
If you wanted a big part of the “Justified” finale to be a showdown between Raylan Givens and Boyd Crowder, you are getting what you want based on the end of Tuesday night’s episode. After all, we have a situation where Boyd did an extremely cold and very-killer move when it comes to Hagan, and Raylan may now have more of a motivation now to take Walton Goggins’ character out for good. Then again, will he actually do it, or does he almost see too much of himself in Raylan now in an extremely twisted way? It is a complicated question and unfortunately, there is no easy answer to it. Raylan is not the same lawful man we saw in the pilot.
In responding to that scene tonight between Boyd and Hagan, executive producer Graham Yost told Yahoo TV that the complications surrounding Boyd go back ages, and part of the fun pushing into the last episode is seeing where these characters now compared to where they were before:
“Whether or not the audience will turn on Boyd is a question. I think that this has just been part of the reality of Boyd for a long, long time. You know, there is that circular intent for the season, to bring things back to the way Boyd and Ava and Raylan to a degree originally were and restate that question. Heading into the final episode, there is a real question whether or not Raylan will kill Boyd, and he certainly has good reason to.”
Ultimately, the stage is set now for what could be a really interesting finale. We just have to wait and see if things deliver to the level that we are hoping for them to in the end. What we can say here is that sometimes there are shows where we can figure out to a certain degree where things are going. “Breaking Bad” is one of them. It felt like Walt needed to die for that story to be complete. Here, we are not entirely sure what we need.
