‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6: Fans react over Nina Dobrev’s departure

Nina Dobrev -It has now been over 24 hours since the news first broke about Nina Dobrev’s departure from “The Vampire Diaries,” and just as you would expect, the fans of the show are not exactly reacting well to the news. Twitter has erupted, conspiracy theories are running rampant, and everyone has an opinion on everything.

Let’s start by shutting down some of the crazier theories. No, this is not some elaborate ploy to devastate fans of Elena and Damon, and to deliberately set up Ian Somerhalder’s character with someone else. Meanwhile, Dobrev was not forced out, or wasn’t given something that she wanted. This was strictly an issue of her not wanting to do the show anymore. Six seasons is a long time to do one job, especially when she is still only 26 years old. In leaving now, she’ll have a chance to take on a variety of other different roles, and then maybe book another TV show down the road if she wants to try something like this on for size again. A similar comparison could be made here to what Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, and many other stars were thinking after “Gossip Girl.” While the show ended at the same time they left, they were at a similar point in their careers.

The Twitter trending topics about Bonnie and Damon have not been a shock at all; fans love the characters, and of course they are bummed at the thought of them not being together, even if it is just a year. What has been the most surprising to us are the attacks that we have seen on the cast and crew, and the demands that the show end just because Nina is leaving. That’s not going to happen. The moment that The CW renewed “The Vampire Diaries,” they most likely knew already that Nina wasn’t going to return. This gave them time to plot ahead the rest of the story.

Hopefully, the next few episodes will give us a sense of what the show wants to do in order to write Elena out of the show, and give her a proper send-off.
