‘Better Call Saul’ season 2: Premiere date speculation and much more

Better Call Saul season 1Tonight, AMC puts a pin on the first season of “Better Call Saul,” and this is not necessarily something that we’re ready for. We went into the first season with enormous expectations that the show could be a huge hit, but also reservations that it may still let us down, given that it was going to have to do so much to really make us buy into the concept and the idea of this being anywhere near as good as “Breaking Bad.”

If the litmus test is for the Bob Odenkirk series to match the original show, it’s not there yet; at the same time, this has become a truly great series, and one that we enjoying watching every week. “Hero,” “Five-0,” and last week’s “Pimento” are all standout episodes that show that this is already one of the strongest series on TV, and it can make you laugh and get you emotionally choked up within a matter of a few short minutes.

The series was renewed for a second season long before it premiered, so there was never a concern there. We imagine that with the present window in place, we are probably going to see the series back in early 2016. Also notable is that the second season is slated at present to be thirteen episodes, which would be the longest batch of episodes that Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have done since the fourth season of “Breaking Bad.”

So will we get more familiar faces next season? Gus Fring is at the top of our wishlist, and it also feels like one of the more likely possibilities. The same goes for more “Breaking Bad” cameos in general. Gilligan said recently that he wanted to limit the number of familiar faces for the first season, mostly because he wanted the new show to stand on its own. We’d also like to see more of future Jimmy a.k.a. Gene living out his days in Omaha.

What do you want to see on the second season of “Better Call Saul,” and perhaps more importantly who do you want to see? Share right now with a comment.
