‘Mad Men’ season 7, episode 8 podcast: Talking ‘Severance,’ Don Draper’s ghost story with Jessa
Sunday night’s “Mad Men” was an episode that gave us a tremendous amount to sit down and discuss, whether you are talking about the death of Rachel Katz, Don Draper feeling lost in his own skin yet again, or the arrival of new and surprising mustaches. This show continues to combine the serene and the silly in ways that we cannot imagine.
It has been a good ten months since the last episode, and therefore it has been ten months since we (meaning Matt Carter and Jessa) sat down to discuss an episode “Severance” was one stuffed to the brim with key events, whether you are talking about Ken Cosgrove being forced out of SC&P only to hire them as a client, Peggy’s brief decision to go to France with someone she never met before the night (she later backtracked on that), or the importance of the waitress or the $100 bill. Are are prime subjects of conversation.
Another big one? Whether or not Jon Hamm deserves to finally win an Emmy for a role that he has played for almost a decade now, and has really made into one of the most important characters in TV history. Him not winning a trophy would be a travesty equaled by Steve Carell never winning for his role as Michael Scott, which was equally important to comedies as Don Draper is for dramas.
Also, we go through the potential endgame for all of the main characters, and discuss whether or not anyone will meet a tragic end as we get to the end of this long, winding, and fantastic road.
