‘Shameless’ season 5 finale reaction: Exec on Justin Chatwin’s future, Debbie shocker

It is pretty fair to say that the “Shameless” season 5 finale contained shockers aplenty. How else can you really explain the fact that Bianca killed herself and left Frank alone again, while Fiona is still stuck between two men and Sammi may be heading to juvenile hall? There was a ton going on here from start to finish, and we have not even mentioned that Debbie may be pregnant after defying Emmy Rossum’s character early in the episode.

So is this pregnancy really going to stick? Minutes after the finale, executive producer John Wells refused to confirm to the Hollywood Reporter that there are no definitive plan for the story at the moment, other than that you can probably count on what you saw to be true:

“Well, I can only confirm that that’s what we were doing at the time, but we haven’t sat down to figure out where it would got yet. We weren’t trying to just be titillating with it or provocative; we wanted to actually say, “What do you do?” when this theoretical thing just got very real.”

There are a variety of interesting stories to come in season 6. For example, Dermot Mulroney is going to return as Sean. As for Justin Chatwin, Wells said that his future is a little more in doubt:

“We never want to say never. We could sit down and suddenly come up with a great idea, but for both of those characters, I think it would be fair to say that we love the actors and we love the characters but we sort of felt like we would need to find something completely different to do if we were going to bring them back.”
