‘Poldark’ episode 5 preview: Mark begs for a little help from Ross

Through four episodes, the BBC has woven a rather delicate, complicated tapestry within “Poldark,” and it is one where more than just a post-war landscape is important. You also have issues related to class and status, and what marriage obligations truly mean. Relationship issues are something that Ross Poldark should be very much familiar with right now given what is going on with Demelza, and it is also the subject of our new sneak peek below.

In this preview, Poldark finds himself witness to Mark and Keren’s wedding, and it may be one of the most uncomfortable ceremonies to ever witness. Mark is not entirely pleased with his current economic status (which is why, hence, he goes to Ross requesting more time at the mind), and Keren is not exactly being the most supportive. How else do you explain her spending a ton of time talking to another man at her wedding party? You really can’t. The irony here is that this man is an old friends of Ross’ who he invited to Cornwall.

This may be a pickle that is too much for Ross to handle, mostly because we know already that he has his own wide array of issues … which include Demelza giving birth. Another story in this episode will feature Francis’ gambling problem becoming an issue that impacts almost everyone around him, but there is no clear explanation as to Ross’ role in that. All we know is that this episode brings us over the halfway point for this thrilling first season.
