‘The X Factor’ UK: One Direction makes first comments since Zayn Malik departure
Is One Direction going to be just fine in the wake of the exit of Zayn Malik? Based on what we are hearing now, it feels like these guys are going to be just fine. Why wouldn’t they be? While they may be emotionally devastated that their friend, who they first teamed with on “The X Factor” years ago, is gone, they have become some of the biggest stars on the planet. They’ve found enormous wealth, fame, and can express themselves and the causes they are passionate about.
Speaking out for the first time in an interview with The Sun, the remaining band members in Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan made it clear that the show is going to go on for the group. Specifically, Payne explained that the entire group is determined to keep progressing forward … in that same direction that is in their group’s title:
“It’s been a tough few weeks, probably the toughest since the band was formed five years ago … We’re gutted that Zayn chose to leave, but now after a few performances as a four-piece, we’re feeling confident and are determined to carry on stronger than ever.”
The band has been performing as a quartet ever since Malik decided to leave the tour, and days later confirmed that he is departing the band once and for all. He is embracing a solo career, and based on what we’ve heard, he will still have some sort of relationship with at least his former mentor on the show Simon Cowell.

Zayn can’t be replaced. His magic voice & the wonderful
person he
is make the dynamic impossible. I was at the Cape Town show & they
would take him back in a heartbeat IMHO. He is sorely missed. The
tragedy is the loss of Zayn’s wonderful voice & quiet but charming
personality. Any voice coach will tell you he had the finest voice in
the band. Liam as second best singer is taking a
big load but he
simply does not have Zayn’s range & it’s noticeable to real 1D
lovers. The SA leg of OTRA vs the San Siro concert BluRay demonstrates
this in spades. Even so we loved the 4 of them. I wish all 5 of the guys
the very best with their future endeavours. 1D will survive with
determination.
