‘The Following’ season 3 spoilers: When could Joe Carroll be executed?
Now that James Purefoy has returned to “The Following” as Joe Carroll, his story is ingrained into everything that Ryan Hardy is doing. Kevin Bacon’s character has always to a certain extent been haunted by him, and we definitely do not expect this to change as we get closer and closer to the end of the season.
When you do consider all of this, you have to wonder just how Ryan feels about the idea of Joe being executed come the April 27th installment entitled “Evermore.” There is obviously a part of him that will be thrilled to see him gone, but there could also be another part that suffers from a weird sort of emptiness. These two have been two extreme opposites of the same coin in a way, the hunter and the hunted. Will Ryan function the same with Joe gone from the world?
The synopsis below teases that this installment takes place the day of Joe’s execution, and we will just have to say what happens from here:
“With Joe Carroll’s execution day upon them, the team remains on edge, expecting that he won’t go easily. Ryan’s presence is demanded at the scene when a hostage situation ensues, as the world stands by watching the heavy news coverage of the day’s events.”
We do have to say that while we enjoy Joe as a character and his relationship with Ryan is interesting and complex, the show could be suited well by killing him off. After all, finding a way for the character to survive at this point, especially given all that he’s done, could cause the police to lose even more of what little credibility they had on this show in the first place.
Tell us: Do you think that “The Following” is actually going to kill Joe, or will they come up with some other way to further along this story? Share some of your thoughts and hopes with a comment.)

I think that Joe Carroll is a personality inside Ryan Hardy. When I die, so will you, Ryan. When the series ends, I think this will come up. I do not want Joe dead, he is a villian that we love, absolutely love to hate.
