‘True Detective’ season 2: Colin Farrell forced to gain weight for role
“True Detective” season 2 is a project that almost everyone is scraping for details about. HBO has served as a vessel for a thought-provoking, fascinating look at what it takes to solve difficult crimes from executive producer Nic Pizzolatto. Based on the strength of the first season, expectations are now through the roof. This is going to be a hard thing for the network and the producers to match, but we certainly give them some applause for putting forth this sort of effort.
While we cannot tell you much officially about the new season, we can say that Colin Farrell is going to be the leading man as a complicated cop in Ray Velcoro. He had to do quite a bit of emotional preparation for the part, but also some physical preparation to go along with it. Specifically, he was forced to gain weight! As the actor told Glamour in a recent interview, this was a challenge for him that was actually far more difficult than you would initially think:
“People think it must be fun to eat what you want – and it is, for the first day. Day two, when you’re already on your second cheeseburger and fries with a chocolate shake by 11 a.m., not so much.”
Remember that movie “Super Size Me”? After a few weeks, we had to imagine that the physical results here are something like how Morgan Spurlock felt during that entire process. It’s almost the reverse of Matthew McConaughey, who lost a ton of weight for “Dallas Buyers Club,” a film that he made close to when “True Detective” season 1 was filmed.

Colin Farrell is awesome! I cannot wait to check out the series. My favourite movies of his are a tie between ‘The New World’ and ‘Ondine’. I would love to meet him one day to tell him how awesome he is, and what an amazing person he is for all his charity work. If he ever comes to Australia, I will gladly shout him a green smoothie ?
