NBC’s ‘The Voice’ rankings: Deanna Johnson, Joshua Davis, Nathan Hermida top Team Adam Levine
Monday night’s “The Voice” is almost here, and we are back yet again to do something that we’ve certainly always enjoyed doing right around this time: Ranking the contestants!
In looking at Adam Levine’s team, we are not going to lie and say that this is the strongest edition of it that we’ve seen in eight seasons. There are couple of people here we simply don’t see making it far with America’s vote behind it, and while there are two or three potential candidates here, even they may face an uphill battle. Last season, Adam had the frontrunner at this point in the competition in Matt McAndrew; this will be more of a test in if these artist and their coach can tackle effectively being a little bit more comeback kids. (If you’ve missed it, we rank based mostly on performance quality, screen time, edit, and past voting history.)
5. Tonya Boyd-Cannon – We don’t doubt her singing ability at all, but she is coming into this round off a very dated performance of “I Wish.” Can she be current? Out of the contestants on Adam’s team, her most recent YouTube video is lagging behind in views.
4. Brian Johnson – Watch out for him as a potential underdog. He’s got a ton of screen time this season, and he could be a sleeper to make it a couple more weeks. He just needs to bring more of his battle rounds performance a little less of what he did in the knockouts.
3. Nathan Hermida – Nathan’s got something. We really dig him as a contestant because there is not really anyone quite like him left this season, but there are still things he needs to work on. He almost tries to hard to be vocally perfect, and in the process we lose some of that raw energy.
2. Joshua Davis – Joshua is another interesting addition to Adam’s team, given that he wanted him in the first place, but eventually had to steal him from Blake to make it happen. With his soulful voice and down-to-earth personality, he is the sort of contestant who voters on singing shows tend to go for the majority of the time.
1. Deanna Johnson – Maybe she has a slightly bigger audience by this being a return appearance to “The Voice,” or maybe she is helped by having a voice that in some ways brings us memories of Florence Welch and other singers with a strong low register.
