‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11, episode 18 review: Amelia’s admission; Stephanie’s blunder
“Grey’s Anatomy” Thursday night brought us a melting pot of stories. April and Jackson tried to move forward, Derek became readjusted to life in Seattle, and a field trip went a little bit chaotic when some of the children witnessed something they clearly should not have seen. It was an episode about personal growth, and figuring out when is the right time to take a leap.
For example, Callie realized tonight that she was not exactly ready to jump back into dating, even though she had an offer. Is this the beginnings of her realizing that she still wants to be with Arizona? We don’t want to make any big assumptions, but maybe this is a step in the positive direction for them in the end.
As for Derek, recommitting to Meredith was a huge part of his narrative, while being there for his sister Amelia was another after she admitted to having feelings for Owen. She’s afraid of falling in love and having her heart broken, and we understand that. She is not entirely ready to make that leap, but she knows that sooner or later, she really does have to try.
The sweetest moment of the episode tonight came with Derek actually teaching a young girl a thing or two about what it means to be a doctor, which we felt was almost a metaphor for how he wants to be there now for his own kids. As for the winner of Funniest Story of the Night, it has to be Stephanie spending most of the episode wondering whether or not she should ask out the chaperone for the children on their field trip, only to learn that he was actually still in high school. A great moment, and as a whole, we liked the positive energy this hour had to offer. Grade: B+.
