‘Chicago PD’ season 2, episode 18 review: ‘Get Back to Even,’ Voight’s trouble, Jay’s awesomeness

Chicago PD -What do you watch “Chicago PD” for? The answer to this question will largely impact what you think about tonight’s episode entitled “Get Back to Even.”

For example, if you appreciate Jay Halstead saving the day at multiple turns, you probably very much enjoyed this epsiode. We saw him in manhunt mode, working with Lindsay, and of course being the hero like we’ve seen him so many times before. The writers know that they have a character here with many of those prototypical hero qualities to him; while he is much more complicated than just a good guy around the clock, he steps up to the plate well in these situations, and also serves well in the shoulder-you-can-lean on situations. We saw these moments best play out in his scenes with his brother Will, who was contemplating his future after spending so much time working in the world of New York plastic surgery. The money here was great, but he was leaving at the same time hollow every single day. Is money an adequate payoff if you don’t feel fulfilled at work? For Will, the clear answer was “no,” and that is what led to him ultimately stepping away.

So where does this take him now? Back to Chicago presumably, as we watch him try to take a job over at Chicago Med. This is what we like to call a smooth transition over to next week’s “Chicago Fire” episode, which will serve as the backdoor pilot for that series.

As for the story with Voight, we were very concerned with all of the #VoightAccused hashtags running amok on social media. Yet, he turned out okay and in one piece, which should give you a reason to smile. Granted, this news came in the midst of an emotional episode for him that touched back on his early days as an officer, and how he discovered further that the actions that he makes can impact generations. Episode Grade: B-.
