‘Masters of Sex’ season 3 spoilers: Expect major changes (and departures)
Times are changing for “Masters of Sex,” and by that, we literally mean that there is going to be a massive change in time period. Gone are the days of seeing William Masters as a no-name doctor with ambitions in the world of sex research, and gone are the days of Virginia Johnson as a mother to two young children.
According to TVLine, the upcoming third season is pushing forward the action forward six years, and with that comes significant changes to the fabric of the show as we know it. Take, for example, Virginia’s kids. Since you cannot send the children into a rapid-aging machine or something straight out of a “Doctor Who” episode where they go to a planet where they age faster, there needs to be new actors for Tessa and Henry. Recastings are fairly common in the world of child actors; even without the time jump, “Game of Thrones” has done it a few times already, mostly notably with Tommen Lannister.
There is one other notable change coming up in the third season: Teddy Sears is going to be leaving the series as Austin, at least as a regular. The site notes that there is a chance we will see him occasion. We’ve got no problem with this move, mostly because of the fact that few people tend to stay in the lives of others permanently, especially someone like Bill Masters, who is going to see such a rise in notoriety and social circles as time progresses. Also Austin never really fit in Masters life last year and mostly just had his own separate story line.
In case you have not heard already, the third season of “Masters of Sex” is going to be premiering in July. Once again, it will be paired with another popular Showtime drama in “Ray Donovan.”
