‘Black Sails’ season 3 spoilers: Blackbeard tease in latest promo video

Black Sails -Pirates, beware: “Black Sails” is coming back to Starz in 2016, and it is going to be doing so with one of the craziest seasons that we’ve seen to date. Captain Flint’s journey has been perilous, but the seas are about to become rocky and tainted with blood as Blackbeard arrives.

The new promo below from the network actually features one of the first real glimpses we’ve seen of Ray Stevenson in the role as the feared pirate, and this once again proves that few are better at completely becoming the part. We imagine that the introduction of this character was in many ways a creative struggle. You want to obviously incorporate people who are familiar from pirate lore into your show, but at the same time work first and foremost on establishing your own characters. The timing here seems right to see Blackbeard; had they introduced him at the end of season 1, for example, the risk would have been larger of him completely overshadowing some other players in the cast. That is not a great thing when you want your series to be long-lasting and not relying on just the famous pirates.

New episodes of “Black Sails” will most likely premiere in January, and probably the largest thing that any fan could ask for now is greater awareness. This cannot be a cheap series to make, and we get a sense that many outside of Starz subscribers are unaware of the show. Hopefully some new viewers will be lured over due to “Outlander,” and then tempted to watch something different for a change.
