Tonight is set to be an interesting one on CBS for a variety of different reasons. You’ve got another new episode of “NCIS” airing for one, but not with a new episode of “NCIS: New Orleans” or “Person of Interest.”
Instead, tonight marks the premiere of “The Dovekeepers,” the four-hour miniseries that was filmed in Malta, and marks the return of Cote de Pablo to the network. Early hype for the Roma Downey – Mark Burnett production is strong, and it comes at a time when the two have many programs hitting the airwaves. Just next week, for example, “A.D.” is going to be coming on NBC. We anticipate that “The Dovekeepers” will draw some solid ratings, but the full extent of its success is somewhat hard to pin down. You have devoted Cote fans who will watch, but the Siege of Masada is not necessarily a well-known event in history by many Americans. That may be one of the reasons why some choose not to check this out.
Regardless of its overall quality, this miniseries could end up being a test for Cote as we get into the new television season. If she is interested in doing another series and this proves to be a hit, we imagine that she will receive a flurry of offers over the next several months as pilots look to book some last-minute additions. Granted, there also won’t be any pressure for her to sign on to anything. She has shown already that she can be patient when it comes to choosing her next projects, and she made so much money from “NCIS” over the years that she doesn’t need to have a full-time TV job if she doesn’t want to.
As for if she could show up on “NCIS” again, it is certainly no coincidence where CBS decided to air “The Dovekeepers.” We figure that a possibility could be there eventually, but given where we are in season 12 at the moment, we’d be shocked if Ziva was to stage a return until season 13. It’s ultimately going to come down her schedule, and if the writers come up with a story that will honor the character.
For now, let’s just ask this: Are you planning to watch “The Dovekeepers” tonight? Let us know with a comment, and head over here if you want to preview tonight’s “NCIS” episode! Also, sign up to get some other TV news on everything we cover courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: CBS.)
