‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 spoilers: One reported omission (so far)
While you are going to see a variety of different characters on “Downton Abbey” on the upcoming sixth (and supposedly final) season, there is one notable omission that we can report right now: A dog.
For those who watched the fifth season, you know already that the show has lost the beloved hound Isis, who passed near the end of the season in one of the most heart-wrenching scenes out there. We know that the press made a very big stink over this at the time, even though we still think that it had more to do with the fact that dogs do not have a particularly long lifespan more so than the show just not wanting any controversy regarding the name of the terrorist group in the Middle East. Isis was one of the best TV dogs out there, though, so we are going to miss him dearly. Clearly, the show also did not want to just shoehorn a replacement in there for the sake of doing so.
As series star Hugh Bonneville told the Radio Times in a recent interview, he has not filmed any scenes as of yet with a new dog, and he is at least a reasonably way through filming the new season. Therefore, it’s possible that the show may just be moving away from that. As much fun as it is to have a dog (especially since it is the first thing you see in the theme song), it probably does slow matters down on the set by a certain degree.
While there is no firm premiere date for the new season of the new season just yet, you can probably expect it back on ITV come September. Meanwhile, the show will return with new episodes on PBS in January.
