NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Nate Ruess helps advise during Knockout Rounds
It has become a tradition of sorts for there to be a guest mentor on “The Voice” during the Knockout Rounds, and it is someone that every team shares. The first time we saw this, it was when Coldplay frontman Chris Martin stopped by (who we are a huge fan of). Then, the show managed to snag Taylor Swift when she was doing her promotional tour for “1989.”
Tonight, you are going to see fun. frontman Nate Ruess make an appearance on the show to help further counsel Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and Pharrell’s teams as they prepare for the last phase of the competition before the live shows. What we like about Ruess specifically appearing on the show is that he’s not just some typical singer with a big voice but instead he’s a guy who really had to work hard at it, since his voice is not so much booming as it is distinctive. He has similarities in some ways to Adam, with the exceptions coming in style and Nate being in another band (The Format) before eventually finding his way with fun., who had enormous hits with “We Are Young” and “Some Times.”
Ultimately, these little mentoring sessions are great, but what we like about them is that they’re quick. The Battle Rounds waste way too much time, and take us away from what we really want to see in the end: The live shows! This is the round that is going to actually help the contestants be the best artists that they can be in the long run, and it also helps them get the best exposure.
We’ll be back tonight with a review of the knockouts, but let us know now in the comments what you want to see! Also, head over here for another fun preview, or here to get some other TV updates worth singing about via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
