‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: Tyrion and Varys’ heart-to-heart

TyrionHBO is continuing to be rather kind when it comes to sharing sneak peeks in regards to “Game of Thrones.” Yesterday, we shared with you one sneak peek (take a look at it here) that featured both Jon Snow and Mance Rayder. Today, we are shifting the microscope over to two of our personal favorites in Tyrion Lannister and Varys.

Despite his limited presence at times, Varys is a remarkable creation. He seems to revel in the shadows, and despite looking like a local friendly friar, he somehow may be the most perceptive person of all. In this video below, he explains to Peter Dinklage’s character the reason that he followed the orders of Jaime and released him: He realizes that it is “men of talent” who are key to really altering the course of what is to come. There may be more compelling leaders that Tyrion — he is not the sort to ever take the throne — but there are few who possess his innate ability to be able to read people, understand the pieces on the table, and know where to go next. His power lies in influence.

Through season 5, these two characters are going to find a new place to have their influence known: Meereen. The meeting between Tyrion and Dany, which we presume will happen this season based on promotional material, should be nothing sort of excellent. She is a shrewd leader and conqueror of people, and offers up a positive alternative to being held captive as slaves. However, she is not so adept at the intricacies of ruling. This is where former Master of Coin Tyrion could come into play, even if he didn’t love that job. Not only that, but should their relationship be a favorable one, Tyrion can offer up information in regards to the other rivals in the Seven Kingdoms. Ser Jorah may be exemplary at many things, but he is not around for the start of the season; even if he was, he would not have the same information.
