NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Sawyer Fredericks, Noelle Bybee perform for Pharrell Williams

Voice -The Voice” has had no problem as of late hyping up Sawyer Fredericks as a contender, and the more that we are seeing from him, the more we are starting to understand why. This guy can really sing! Seriously, just listen to the way in which he carries himself in the battle below with Noelle Bybee. This has to be our favorite performance of the entire Battle Rounds so far, and there’s something terrible about the fact that only one of them is going to get a chance to advance.

Ultimately, the only coach with an artist left to steal is Pharrell, and he happens to be the coach here. There’s no way we can have a completely happy conclusion to this battle, but if we had to pick one, we’d probably take Sawyer. There hasn’t been a contestant completely like him over the season, and the shocking thing here is just how young he still is. There is so much potential here for him that remains untapped, and Pharrell has the sort of overall musical sensibility that he can take him in new, interesting places.

While we’re bummed over the lack of steals, at least the show is saving something really good for the end of the battles. We’ve had to sit through a few clunkers to make it to this point (including some last night). We’ve never really felt like this is the best part of the competition, and the majority of the duets don’t have the chemistry these two have. We really could listen to them perform together for a long time without getting bored.
