‘American Idol XIV’ spoilers: Nile Rodgers to help out Joey Cook, Quentin Alexander, top 11

American Idol -For Thursday night’s new episode of “American Idol XIV,” the remaining eleven contestants (only ten will perform) are going to get a chance to get some guidance from someone who has seen the evolution of music very much over the years: Nile Rodgers. He is also someone who has seen a resurgence in recent years, given that he’s worked with the likes of Daft Punk and season 8 star Adam Lambert.

Rodgers himself confirmed that he is the bonus mentor for the week in a post on Twitter, where he is seen with many of the contestants and also in-house mentor Scott Borchetta. One of the big advantages to having Rodgers on board is that the man knows all about creativity, and he also values true performers. To us, that means that he will especially appreciate contestants like Jax, Qaasim Midddleton, Quentin Alexander, and Joey Cook, who really do put a premium on trying to stand out from the crowd.

What is becoming somewhat interesting about this season to us is that there is not a consistent favorite we would say among the group now. For a while, we had Sarina-Joi Crowe at the top of the list, but she is gone. Jax is extremely creative, but she’s also had some inconsistency as of late. Joey has rise to the surface as a contender lately, but she has to keep it up; if Qaasim had better vocals, he would probably be at the top of the pack right now.

Hopefully, Thursday night’s episode will give us a little more clarity not just on the contestants, but also if the show will authorize some different movie songs beyond just “I Believe I Can Fly” and “I Have Nothing.” (If you missed it, songs from the cinema is the theme for the week.)
