‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: Dermot O’Leary confirms Simon Cowell planning ‘changes’

The latest news -What in the world is happening with “The X Factor” this coming season? The easiest way that we can describe it at the moment is this: The series is becoming somewhat of an aging dinosaur, and Simon Cowell is fairly cognizant of that. Changes have to be made for it to continue to stand out and draw decent ratings at a time when people are quite frankly sick of singing shows.

Unfortunately, mum’s the word on what these changes could be. Rumors floated around last week regarding Olly Murs being considered for a role in the show, whether it be either a fifth judge or some sort of co-host. Things are currently so secret that even longtime host Dermot O’Leary has no idea what is planned, and whether or not he will even be returning. While preparing for a dance bit for Comic Relief, he told 3am the following:

“We normally sit down February or March but Simon wants to change stuff [this time]. So I need to see what changes he is going to make before a) I know if he wants me and b) whether I’m suitable for those changes.”

Whatever Simon does, it feels almost like a mistake to get rid of Dermot. This is a man who was basically essential to the series being so great the past several years; he’s funny, he’s sharp, and he also comes across as sympathetic to the contestants while still doing his job. Hosting is the most underrated role you can have in the entertainment industry. It is always far more challenging than anyone would be willing to give you credit for.
