ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4, episode 15 review: The Susan Ross story
Tonight, “Scandal” spent a little bit of time letting us know a thing or two more about Susan Ross. She is Fitz’s hand-picked Vice-Presidential candidate, and a woman who was seemingly plucked out of nowhere in the Senate for one sole purpose: Making absolutely certain that Mellie has a chance at being President someday, and that she is not some sort of serious competition to anyone.
The funny thing is that we really do come away from this episode really cheering for her, mostly because Ross seems to be one of the more relatable politicians this show has ever had. In a way, maybe this is why she may have trouble actually being a serious contender someday. She’s not someone who really wants to fit into some standard box of what you expect.
This story, and her eventually getting sworn in to office, was what made this a powerful episode. This and Guillermo Diaz’s performance, which helped to remind us that the show is always going to be intense and dramatic at any point that B613 is brought to the surface. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens the rest of the season here, but we’re intrigued.
As for Abby, who knew she’d be getting a spark in her romantic life? That story helped to offset the sad case of some of Olivia’s neighbors, who experienced tragedy and also hid the true nature of their relationship for a very long time. Grade: B+.
