Ratings: ‘Madam Secretary,’ ‘The Good Wife,’ ‘Battle Creek’ hurt by Daylight Savings Time
There are few excuses when it comes to your favorite show that qualify as good ones, but one of the most notorious ones is Daylight Savings Time. Routinely, the switch damages shows, especially ones that air in the earlier hours of primetime as families start to enjoy some of the later hours of sunshine.
The biggest victim of this last night was really an entire network in CBS. Just look at the ratings for “Madam Secretary” (1.1), “The Good Wife” (1.0), and “Battle Creek” (0.8). This was a series low for all three shows, and it seems that this Vince Gilligan show in “Battle Creek” is not going anywhere near as long as “Breaking Bad.” We would not be shocked if it is canceled within a week or two if these numbers continue.
All of this ultimately makes us even sadder that CBS moved “The Amazing Race” from Sundays, given that it was ultimately perfect for that timeslot and fared far better than on Fridays.
There was slightly better news over on ABC. “Once Upon a Time” (2.1) won the night, and while “Secrets and Lies” (1.4) is down considerably from what “Resurrection” was getting last spring, it is better than the show’s ratings this past fall. Also, “Revenge” (1.0) improved slightly from its last airing in January. It may not be enough to save it, but it is certainly worth mentioning.
Over on Fox, “Last Man on Earth” (1.8) is still performing fairly well, all things considered. This show has to at least be in consideration for renewal given the recent totals for some of their other shows.
