‘The Originals’ season 2: Which recurring player just scored a pilot gig?
Is “The Originals” about to lose another Mikaelson? For a show that is very much about family, they do seem to have a hard time holding onto people who are playing someone other than Klaus or Elijah.
First, we had the curious case of Claire Holt, who left the series full-time last year, and is now a major part of the upcoming NBC series “Aquarius,” which premieres a little later this summer. Then, we have seen Daniel Sharman’s version of Kol go the way of the dodo. Could Rebekah be next? We’re somewhat worried, since Maisie Richardson-Sellers has just signed on to do a new pilot. Per Deadline, the second actress to play this character after Holt has joined an “epic” Biblical tale entitled “Of Gods and Prophets,” which is one of the pilots being submitted for contention over at ABC. This series is potentially going to be filmed in South Africa, so “ambition” is certainly a term that can be used here.
We will give Richardson-Sellers a great deal of credit here for what she’s done with Rebekah. After Holt’s departure, it felt very much like a near-impossible challenge that anyone was going to be able to sweep in and do anywhere near as good a job. This is not an easy role to play! Yet, she nailed the inflections and gave the role her own spark.
Granted, this is only a pilot, and does not guarantee that this Rebekah is leaving the show. It’s just something to think about. We do see Maisie being a hot commodity in the months ahead, given that she did film a mysterious role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
“The Originals” will return with new episodes on The CW later this month. Head over here in the event you want to read more of the latest. Also, sign up here if you want to bite into some more TV news via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: The CW.)
