‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 16, episode 17 preview: A Carisi-centric episode
Earlier this season, it was announced that Peter Scanavino was promoted to series regular for “Law & Order: SVU” season 16. However, in that time we have not really had a whole lot of time to learn about Carisi. This may change somewhat in “Parole Violations,” the upcoming 17th episode of the show that is airing on Wednesday, March 25. This is now confirmed to be the first episode back from the show following hiatus.
In the synopsis below, it is clear that you are going to get a chance to see Carisi’s sister Bella for the first time. However, what we are also going to learn in the process here is that her fiance has a history that makes him a rather difficult person to trust:
“Detective Carisi’s (Peter Scanavino) sister Bella (guest star Marin Ireland) prepares for her wedding to fiancé Tommy Sullivan (guest star Michael Chernus) and the upcoming birth of their child. But when Tommy falls back into bad habits and accuses his parole officer (guest star Molly Price) of rape, Carisi must investigate whether the claim is real or just another one of Tommy’s excuses.“
This episode is going to be one of many that air throughout the spring; while you may have to wait until the end of “Empire” to see them (probably a wise scheduling move on NBC’s part), it is for the best. This means most likely higher ratings, and also a chance to see many episodes in a row. We’re excited to learn more about Carisi, who we’ve come to appreciate as a character throughout the season.

If EMPIRE comes back in the 9 pm Wednesday slot next season(and SVU stays where it is) I would expect to see lots of breaks in the schedule. However, Now that everybody knows that Warren Leight will be leaving after season 17, the future of SVU after next season will be up in the air. Does Mariska Hargitay want to work with anyone else? Will NBC have the balls to continue the show without her(if she wants to leave)? A statement from Mariska in the next month or so would help put some of those fears to rest, but I don’t think that we’ll see one. More later.
