Is ‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 16 new tonight? New Paul Wesley, Annie Wersching photo

Let us start this “Vampire Diaries” article with the bad news: There is no new episode of the show airing tonight. Luckily, you’re not going to be waiting too much longer! New episodes begin with “The Downward Spiral” next week, and from there, you will get a chance to at least see two consecutive installments before another hiatus of at least a week. We almost wish that The CW was not being so scattered with their scheduling of this show, given that it makes it a little bit harder to follow along.

One person who we know already will have a major role on the series when it returns is Annie Wersching. Fresh off of playing the psychotic Dr. Kelly Nieman on “Castle,” the actress is recurring heavily on this show as the mother of Damon and Stefan Salvatore. We’ve already seen her trapped in the past on the series, sitting within a cell. Is there a way to save her? Don’t get too hopeful just yet, just because she happened to take a pretty endearing photo with Paul Wesley and post it on her Twitter account. Unfortunately, there is still so much time for things to go completely haywire here.

If nothing else, this appearance from her will be a great opportunity to find out something more about Stefan, including what more of his past was like. We’ve seen it here and there, but with a history as deep as his is, getting more of it is always appreciated.
