‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Return date, what to expect from Michelle Dockery, cast
Tonight, “Downton Abbey” ended its fifth season on PBS, and it has already been over for months in the United Kingdom.
So when can you expect the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, and more back on your TV sets? Well, be prepare to wait for a very long time. The new season is going to be filming over the months ahead, and it will premiere in Great Britain on ITV this September … at least so long as it follows the same tradition of what the network has done the past few years. There are no reports out there of major departures, though there are rumors surrounding the likes of Allen Leech, Lily James, and more.
As for America, expect the sixth season to be back on the air come January 2016. Why won’t PBS move the date around? The simple answer is that there is no reason for them to. They like having the show in this spot. While you have competition from the Super Bowl, the Oscars, and the Grammys, they still feel like as a whole, there are more opportunities for the show to shine here than it would if it aired during the fall. There are also some other factors that are at play here, given that it is jumping countries and networks.
As for whether or not this will be the last season, there are of course rumors about that, as well. Nothing is confirmed, and while we’d want the show to live forever in our mind, the reality here is that nothing great lasts forever. It may be better to end on top.

I would love to see Barrow loosen up a bit and find love and happiness. Please bring Tom back. He’s so down to earth that it helps to humble the snobs of Downton. Anna needs to have a baby and Daisy needs to get remarried. Ms. Patmore is such a likable character and I hope she has more to do in Season 6. Edith has come a long way and I would love to see her continue to do well. She needs a good man. Mary is intriguing but I don’t want her to find happiness before Edith does. Edith needs to out do Mary for once. Maybe Mary could meet a wonderful poor man with no title and fall hard enough for him to marry him. I would also like to see Isobel realize that Dr. Clarkson is the best match for her. Lord Grantham and Cora are kinda boring but I hope they grow old and spend lots of time with the grandchildren. Also, I think Lord Grantham needs to adopt a new puppy!

Love your ideas, Cookie! I would like to see some drama between all the inlaws, and perhaps another visit from Cora’s mother (although I don’t like the casting of Shirley McLean for this part –or she needs to have a more refined character.) I want to see Cora mad at something! I want to see Edith take over the printing business in London and become quite famous as a businesswoman. I want to see Daisy spend more time at the farm and maybe the father of her late husband becomes ill, so she needs to take over….gets some confidence. I would like to see Barrow find love (but not at Downton, so he isn’t so nervous and can enjoy his life). I want to see Tom come back with a beautiful and lovely wife (not Sarah). I want Isobel to dump Dr. Clarkson until he comes back humbly having put his boys in their place. I think Mary needs to do some reflecting for a couple of episodes. This new guy has her intrigued, but he’s not interested in her (yet). She needs to have something happen (robbed at the train station or serious illness that turns out ok, drunk at the dinner table and does something stupid or something that gives us pause! Love this show!

I see Season 6 start with everything going well in wealthy England and go quickly into the Depression Era with Tom coming back to England to survive, and the family needing to adjust to the ripple effect the Depression created.
The rest is the drama. Would love to see Edith get a flaming love interest with a very worthy suitor, while Mary’s love life is dry. An upper-crust cat fight, all proper of course, for the soap opera side of things. Don’t make them too mushy…yet. Save that for the final finale.
