‘Agent Carter’ season 2: On renewal odds and possible stories
Tonight, the end will be here for Marvel’s “Agent Carter” … and possibly forever. The ratings have not necessarily been terrible for the limited series, but they also have not been amazing. So far, this has probably been the weakest link commercially out of the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if “Agents of SHIELD” is also struggling in its own right in season 2.
At the moment, we feel like it is too early to tell what the future holds for this show. We know ABC wants to continue working with Marvel, and this will be chance for them to keep that relationship strong. However, they also want good ratings! If the show does come back for another season, we hope it is of a similar sort of isolated-story format, that way it never has the feeling of being dragged out so that something is saved for down the road. It could be May until a decision is made, and if it is canceled, we’re pretty sure the claim will be that it was always meant to stand on its own.
In case you are reading this before the finale is over, executive producer Michele Fazekas says per TV Guide that there are a few loose threads that could be out there for a second season:
“There’s still a larger issue out there and there are certainly two very obvious loose ends. So there’s a little bit of both. I think there’s some closure for Peggy personally. There’s some closure in the immediate threat that they’re facing. But we’ve left room for other things to happen. Which is not to say that in future seasons we would have to go into that particular story. The thing about this show is the way that it’s been conceived is there’s so many avenues you could go down that aren’t married to anything. But there’s certainly little threads out there that have still not been tied up.”
