Jason Jones leaving ‘The Daily Show’ to star in TBS comedy; Samantha Bee to remain
Times are clearly changing on “The Daily Show.” Weeks ago. Jon Stewart confirmed that he was going to be leaving the show later this year to pursue other opportunities. This comes after Stephen Colbert departed “The Colbert Report,” and it really was not that long ago that John Oliver left for “Last Week Tonight” on HBO.
Today, it was confirmed that Jason Jones is also going to be leaving, as a comedy co-written by himself and wife Samantha Bee has been given a ten-episode order over on TBS. This comedy also stars Natalie Zea of “Justified” and “The Following.” This is probably great news for Jones in terms of personal fulfillment, and this has been in the works for some time. Therefore, he must have expected that he was not going to be brought on as the host of “The Daily Show” at some point in the future.
As for Bee’s future on “The Daily Show,” she is expected to remain on the program. With Jessica Williams already saying that she is not in the running for the gig, right now she must be the favorite among the current correspondents to take over the gig. However, Comedy Central will also probably still look elsewhere, but Bee has been our personal pick from the moment Stewart made the announcement. She’s knowledgeable, funny, and familiar to viewers already. Farming out other shows from Stewart’s program has already been shown to work.
There is no specific exit date out there for Jones at the moment, but we will present one to you as soon as we know. We just hope that he still gets a proper tribute even with the attention mostly being on Jon’s future.
