AMC’s ‘Turn: Washington’s Spies’ season 2 avoids ‘Game of Thrones,’ will air in ‘Better Call Saul’ spot
AMC is clearly well aware of the idea that they are really not in heavy competition with broadcast networks anymore for viewers; instead, they are being far more wary of any major competition when it comes to cable.
For this reason, it is no real shock that the network has revealed that season 2 of “Turn: Washington Spies” is set to premiere on Monday, April 13 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time with a two-hour premiere, therefore removing itself from competition with “Game of Thrones” on Sundays. Due to “Mad Men” airing at 10:00, the only other available spot on that night was against the HBO fantasy epic. Given that nobody really wants to run into that sort of killing machine, it’s hard to blame the network for this decision … which we find for the most part to be super-smart.
The only real critique we have of the move is the part that includes a two-hour premiere, since starting on April 20, the show will air in the same 10:00 timeslot that “Better Call Saul” is rocking out now. Why put yourself against “The Voice” and “Dancing with the Stars” if you don’t have to? At ten, the only major competition is “Castle” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.”
AMC also released the following synopsis for the return of the Revolutionary War drama:
“[The new season] moves deeper into the battles waged by soldiers and civilians alike in the pursuit of freedom, and the sacrifices they’re willing to make to secure it. As Abe becomes more committed to the Culper Ring activities, George Washington battles both personal demons and betrayal from within his ranks that threaten not only his leadership but the fate of the revolution. As the colonies struggle to become a nation, the outcome of the revolution will hinge on alliances both on and off the battlefield.”
