Oscars 2015: Robin Williams, Maya Angelou, James Garner, more honored during In Memoriam
The Oscars In Memoriam segment is always incredibly emotional. We know that there is always a good deal of controversy surrounding who is left out of the montage, we do feel every time that the hearts of the Academy are in the right place. They want to make this moving, and try to include as broad of a range of people as they possibly can.
While the montage moved far too fast for us to immediately pick up on every name that was picked up during the segment this year, we can tell you that the likes of Mickey Rooney, James Garner, Elizabeth Pena, Maya Angelou, James Rebhorn, Ruby Dee, Robin Williams, Mike Nichols, and many more were all honored specifically for their contributions. It did not appear as though they were arranged in any particular order, and what was nice about it was that every person was given equal due. We understand the need sometimes to tribute someone specifically for their lives, but at times this can lead to overshadowing.
In the end, everyone will have the one person whose life touched the more than others. For us, it was Williams. He taught us through his work to be imaginative, to inspire, and to make everyone around you feel special.
Following the montage of names, former Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson came out and delivered a moving performance in her own right. This has been a night stuffed full of a variety of fun moments including Neil Patrick Harris in his underwear, but it was nice to take a moment in here to really look back and celebrate those who have made entertainment so special. It goes far beyond just movies.
We will continue to have coverage of the Oscars throughout the rest of the night at the link here, so stay tuned. (Photo: ABC.)
