Oscars 2015: JK Simmons wins, Lupita Nyong’o flubs signature line
We’re not a movie site, but we thought we would present you a winners’ list tonight for the 2015 Academy Awards. We’re not going to provide too much analysis on most of these, but as you saw with the very first award of the night, there are plenty of entertaining moments that are still worth discussing. You have presentations of awards, and then acceptance speeches with the potential to be extremely notable.
This article will update throughout the course of the night, so be sure to refresh often to get more of the latest!
Best Supporting Actor – JK Simmons, “Whiplash.” The funny thing here is that before the show, Lupita Nyong’o said that she was not nervous at all, because she did not have any sort of pressure on her. Well, she had what was the first mistake of the show, announcing Simmons’ win like it was the Screen Actors Guild Awards rather than the Oscars. Awkward? Sure, but she seemed to take it pretty well in stride.
Best Supporting Actress – Patricia Arquette, “Boyhood.” A super-powerful speech, as she used her time to fight for wage equality for women.
Best Animated Feature – “Big Hero Six.” “The Lego Movie” still should have been nominated, right?
Best Director – Alejandro G. Inarrtu, “Birdman.” Does this mean that it’s a lock to win Best Picture? We at least know that the two often go hand in hand.
Best Actor – Eddie Redmayne, “The Theory of Everything.” Did you find this as adorable as we did?
Best Actress – Julianne Moore, “Still Alice.” A very lovely speech, but admittedly at this point, the predictability of the acting awards was getting to us.
Best Picture – “Birdman.” After Richard Linklater lost the directing prize, the winner here had to feel pretty inevitable.
As we said, you can share what you can think about these particular winners below.
