‘Gotham’ episode 17 preview: Is Barbara Keen giving Selina Kyle a makeover?

We honestly had not thought about it much on “Gotham” before watching the sneak peek below, but now, we’re starting to realize it: The show has not given us every aspect of Catwoman yet. Granted, much of that makes sense. She is still a young character, and she is not going to know how to charm people yet to get what she wants.

Apparently, this is not something that she picks up all on her own, either. She has a mentor of sorts in Barbara Keen. Barbara has been a total hot mess of a character most of the season, largely because she had no real chemistry with Jim Gordon, and it was clear their relationship was not going to last. Since that time, we’ve seen her struggle with addiction, loneliness, and a loss of identity. Now, she’s almost like a twisted version of a mother from a beauty pageant.

In the preview video below, Barbara first and foremost insists on trying to show Selina that there is something more to her, and that is something that she can learn to use. She wants to give her some of her old clothes, and has no problem with either her or Ivy sticking around for a little while. Surely, Gordon’s probably not going to be too thrilled when he hears about that, or that Barbara is effectively teaching Selina how to be even more effective at avoiding trouble.

While we’re not entirely sure where this story is going to go, at least Barbara is doing something fairly controversial and interesting. Hopefully, that lasts for at least a little while.
