‘Supernatural’ season 10, episode 14 review: Is Dean free of the Mark of Cain?
After a few weeks off, Tuesday night’s “Supernatural” brought to us the glorious return of Crowley, Rowena, and Castiel. Also, we had the long-awaited coming back of a man who we have long felt was underused the past year or so: Timothy Omundson as Cain. The character is just all sorts of terrifying / awesome.
Unfortunately for Omundson fans, we’re not sure that you are going to be seeing him any longer. Is Cain dead? It sure seemed that way, but what made Dean’s actions towards him all the more important is that he started to act more of his own free will. While there may not necessarily be a cure for the mark, he may have figured out a better way to control it. This may allow the characters to progress forward now without as much fear, which to us is welcome at this point. This has been a fun story to explore Dean’s dark side, but we’re ready to move on to the next piece of mythology.
Hopefully, whatever this is will involve Castiel more. Why hasn’t this guy gotten more airtime lately, or a story that is particularly a standout? He’s been lacking in terms of great stuff to do this year. Also, we really did not enjoy Crowley’s stuff with Rowena (other than her letting out her rage at the end) nearly as much as we have in past weeks.
Despite these minor gripes, let’s talk once again for a moment about Cain. Omundson’s an extremely underrated actor, and within tonight’s episode we were reminded how great he can be at cultivating terror. It’s a shame that we won’t see his manipulative ways on the show any longer, unless of course there a potential Zombie Cian someday (probably the wrong show for that). Grade: A-.
