‘Glee’ season 6: Darren Criss returning to Broadway in ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’
Over the past month or so, we’ve found out more and more about what some of the stars of “Glee” are going to be up to after their time on the show. For example, Lea Michele will be on “Scream Queens,” Jane Lynch still has her hosting gigs, and Matthew Morrison will be heading to Broadway.
Now, we know that Darren Criss will be doing something very similar. It was announced today that the man behind Blaine Anderson, who also appeared in the musical “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” is going to be appearing in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” starting on April 29 at the Belasco Theater. He will be replacing the original star in John Cameron Mitchell, who returned recently for a multi-week run. This production has as a whole brought out a whole array of big-name TV stars in one form or another. Just think about this for a minute. We’ve already seen such people as Michael C. Hall, Neil Patrick Harris (who already won a Tony for the part), and “Girls” star Andrew Rannells as this character for at least a stretch of time.
For Criss, we feel like this booking could signal in a way that he is looking more at stage work in the immediate future after “Glee,” and maybe he is not angling for another series-regular gig in a TV show. Maybe he’ll still have time for a pilot somewhere in here, but it seems pretty tricky.
“Glee” is in the process of filming its final episodes now, and they will air on Fox next month.
